The film opens inside a Benedictine monastery in Northern New Mexico, where monks’ chants echo the tritone once branded “the devil’s chord” — then cuts to Copenhagen, where Novus Ordo heavy-metal priest Robert “Padre Bob” Culat makes his case that metal belongs inside the church, not outside it.
ACT II
The Healing Power of Metal
From Mexican folk-metal ritual band Cemican to Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez on metal’s role with reservation youth, from a metal-soundtracked yoga class to Deftones’ Chino Moreno and Alice Cooper — the film goes deep into metal as therapy, ritual and release.

Confronting Our Biases
The film closes by challenging the audience’s own assumptions about the genre, exploring metal as a platform for activism, diversity and empowerment — with voices from physician Dr. Gabor Maté, cultural critic Laina Dawes, and religion scholar Dr. Jay McDaniel.

Founder of Rock Lectures and Executive Director of the Pecan Street Festival, Luis has worked across the music industry since 1994 — with artists from Austin blues legend Grey Ghost to Metallica. He pioneered Rock en Español in Central Texas, founded the Latino Rock Alliance, and now researches and lectures internationally on rock and metal’s overlooked Latino and Native American roots.
